Wow, lots to catch up on..... Anywho, I'm doing alright. I've got a full time job at a local music store repairing store stock instruments. I did finish the program, and my certificate was hand delivered to my shop by my instructor. Also, I don't remember if I had posted an update of my horn collection, so here is the current list: 4 Clarinets(1 is metal) 1 Flute 1 Soprano Sax 1 Alto Sax 1 Tenor Sax 1 C Melody Sax 1 Bari Sax(my main axe now ) 1 Trumpet 1 Coronet 1 Trombone Whew! [edit]: Wow! page 25!

DS anyone? I'm interested to hear your opinions on Nintendo's latest before I actually go and grab one myself. .... On a related note, how does the PSP compare? I don't mean spec wise. I realize the PSP is WAAY more powerful, but numbers and extras aren't important to me, just games/gameplay. I actually don't have much to say about either, but here goes: I'm used to a lot of wear-and-tare with portables. They need to be durable for long-lasting use and they need to have good games--or good enough to warrant buying the system. The DS has a stylus which, to my guess, would mean the bottom screen will get scratched up very easily. I tested this theory by checking out the display DS at several video game stores, and this confirmed my theory. The stylus bottom screen scratches easily with use. DS games have been relatively unimpressive so far. I mean, the technology for realistic-looking dogs is all well and good, but it's not a system seller for me. The system sellers would probably be Polaris (but that'd scratch up the screen), Metroid Prime Hunters (which looks like a poorly rendered version of its GCN predacessor), Advance Wars DS (again, I can do without, keep plugging away at the GBA version until the 3-D GCN version comes out), Secret of Mana (okay, here, I might consider it). I know they wanted to be revolutionary here, but they really should have focused on one screen and made an N64 portable, instead of two pixellated and one scratched up screen. PSP, here we go...Amazing portable. Great potential. No good games. The video quality is excellent. It's great that they have this new PSP format for watching videos portable, but it's expensive. You need to pay 100 bucks for a decent sized HD to go with it. In the meantime, there's always real dvd players, and laptops with dvd players, (if they're readily available.) It's already been hacked, but I'm told (by NecrosaroIII) that the frame rate for the SNES emulator sucks. That's disappointing, considering the capabilities of the portable, but I'm sure the hackers will keep plugging away. This is definately worth buying if you have the cash and patience. I'm sure they'll come out with a game worth buying the system for eventually, but for now it's a portable that a lot of people have for videos...or just simply because it exists.

Hmm, I am behind the times aren't I? It takes me a while to get up to the standards of the day...I'm still playing on my NES, N64, and PSOne. I never got around to getting myself an Advance SP. I will be purchasing a PS2 for DQ8(or will it still be DW in the States?). It's the same thing that happened to me when DW7 came out. I went and bought a PSOne just so I could play it. I did eventually buy more games though...

AHHH! image.com.com/gamespot/images/2005/news/09/15/revcon_screen002.jpgimage.com.com/gamespot/images/2005/news/09/15/revcon_screen004.jpgI admit, I was SORELY disappointed at the design at first... It's got 4 buttons!! The two at the bottom look difficult to reach too, so that's 4 buttons AT ANY ONE TIME including the triggers on the analog add-on. Hopefully the analog acts like the PS2's L3 and R3 and can be pushed in. Further inspection and one demonstration video later, however, I can see how this new design might actually be better than a traditional controller. I imagined RPGs and how, instead of a classic turn-based system or a "real-time" experience, they could implement some sort form of action in them akin to the Mario RPGs or Legend of Dragoon, where button timing is replaced by movement of the "freehand" controller. Or maybe the pointer on the freehand could turn the entire TV into something like the DS's touch screen. And FPS's... Oh man... That'd be sweet. I haven't owned any form of light gun since the one for the NES, and FPS's have always been so much more fun with peripherals like that. Slap on an analog add-on and you've got a PC-like 2 hand experience where the freehand controller acts like a mouse... I'm still a bit worried about fighting games, the Gamecube didn't have many, and with the way this controller operates, it looks like it won't sport a large number either. Unless of course they use the expansion slots to fix that problem... But then there's the money issue...

Has anyone got Radiata Stories yet? I've got it but I'm only about an hour in, so far it isn't too bad, if you have it and have played it what are your opinions on it?

Yeah, I did join up finally at Slime Knights. Haven't had too much free time to get online lately, with concerts, partying, and hangin out with ladies. On top of that I've got a few side projects to work on for some friends. Easy money!

Wow, I thought this place would be ripe with DQ8 discussion by the time I got here. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised.
DQ8 is alright. There are a lot of new things about it that make it not seem like a DQ/DW game. Some of the improvements are appreciated, and some we could probably have done without.
First up, I love the fact that we now have fully orchestrated music in the game. NecrosaroIII has told me that the Japanese version still has synth, so we can appreciate the full rich sound of actual orchestration, making the game music as audibly enjoyable as purchasing the soundtrack separately. The full 3-D environment gives the game a feeling much like one experiences when playing Ocarina of Time for the first time. But the world map has become much larger scale.
Some of the voice acting we could have done without, and some of it I don't mind as much. It's only for select cut scenes and the player can turn it off, at their disgression.
The problems that I have with the game are the Final Fantasy-type 1 character on screen spawning several characters when attacked. I think in a game this large, we can at least get a few more characters walking behind the main character. With this type of 1 character only we have the obnoxious feeling that someone follows, but 3-d swivelling the camera shows no-one. The one awkward thing about this, is that we can hear the horse (from King Trode's carriage) behind us at all times as we walk in the field. Another thing I'm not too crazy about is the phantom sprites. The characters load separately from the background, so sprites will just appear out of thin air from no where, like ghosts.
Finally, I think I've hit a bug where the game freezes. I have all 4 characters now, and I zoomed back to Fareberry to check something out. When I enter the gates, the game freezes on black screen with the sound of birds chirping and constant feet walking. It happens no matter what enterance I enter Fareberry in. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Hey, I've been gone awhile. What'd I miss? In all seriousness, we brought this old Enix Forums replica up in our DQ Slime Time podcast that Dwaine and I recorded recently with our guest and former Enix Forums admin, Nob Ogasawara. If anyone happens to find this, here's the YouTube version with video (sorry about my glasses.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rq4-VbQ_ik
