You know what would help your clarinet playing? The richard hawkins B model mouth piece... Just search for Richard Hawkins mouthpiece... I am starting to sound like my band director/section coach now. He advertises these mouthpieces ALL the time. Probably because he took from Richard Hawkins. Top two songs for the week1812 Overture Clarinet Polka

Actually, the clarinet has a good condition Selmer hard rubber piece. I think the facing is HS*, which seems a bit closed, but I have a real good sound. My problem right now is fingering speed between the octaves. It is slightly different from sax, but I'm a bit better. I may ask to play it in wind ensemble instead of alto.....we'll see. I also have my 10M in the shop. It's gonna get a repad and a lot of dent work done. Can't wait for it to be back in my hands. I was also looking into trying bari soon, but that's a whole nother beast.

I can't say for myself yet, but from what I hear this mouthpiece rocks to say the least. It has been preached to be one of the best if not the best mouthpiece available. I believe a lot of the top Orchestra players are using them. Once this mouthpiece comes all I need is a different ligature and I will have the same set up as my teacher. I will have an R13, a richard hawkins mouthpiece, and I can either keep the one I have now or switch to an Eddie Daniels. If I really want to get fancy I can start playing around with some of the kick ass buffet clarinet barrels they sell up in L.A. This equipment will not be wasted either... I think with the new equipment, my developing tone (which should be awesome by the end of the year), and my "flahsy" piece I should get a good chair up and Idyllwild (damn those people and their flash crap...). Maybe I will make Allstate next year if I can achieve a lot of the goals I have laid down for myself... Damn neighbors! All this talk of goals and such has made me want to practice...

I think I might need to get up to a larger facing, the HS* seems way closed....but then I am playing on saxes most of the time. I think I need to try and get more of a clarinet sound, vs. a sax guy playing on a clarinet sound. Anywho, I'm back to school on monday...without my 10M. Stuck playing the inferior Cannonball for a week and a half! Maybe I need to get it adjusted too...? I'll have to wait and see how the 10M turns out, a complete repad!!! CD of the moment: Maceo Parker: Funk Overload.

Played the Richard Hawkins "B" Facing mouthpiece today. I gotta say I'm in L-U-V. I am going to send this one back and order another from my teacher at a lower price.

Well, day two of classes is over and all is going okay. I'm actually playing bari for jazz now, and alto for wind ensemble...and I dig bari! Sounds like a cool find on that mouthpiece, big B. Thumbs up on that.
