So, I was looking for some good funk and got some James Brown.......whoo! He's Mr. Funkypants! But do you know how hard it is to find good jazz recording? Even with the internet it is a pain.

Classical, eh? Check out Gustav Holsts' The Planets, or his 1st suite in Eb or 2nd suite in F. All are quite nice.
Anywho, music........
I'll be going on some trips with the college jazz band in the next few weeks.

Of course I am stuck playing the 3rd part. That will change on the 22nd of this month though ;D Auditions for chairs again and this time I am not gonna blow it.

I have probably said it many times, I'm a saxist. I played alto on the second suite in high school. The 4th movement is cool, but the 3rd, Song of the Blacksmith is my fav.

3rd movement is decent but not as good as the 1st and 4th. It is all about the Dargason Oh lord another loud saxist.... Save me I play the clarinet. I know I know we multiply rapidly like flutes. We are as bad as rabbits

Hey, saxes can play p and pp or even ppp if needed....you clarinet whiners need to blow more. Anywho, I converted to sax from clarinet in 8th grade....it took me 3 years to find out that I sucked at it.

I was taught to put some air into the horn so I can be heard. I am not saying I blast but I am saying I have learned the most magical thing in the whole world. Air Support. ;D

Air Support. ;D I played really quiet until I started getting into jazz(my Junior year in HS, about 3 1/2 years ago). Do you practice long tones? I go up my horn chromatically holding each note as long as I can while playing them as loud as I can, which ends up about 10 secs until I get in the upper register on Tenor. It really helps develop your control. Takes me at least 15 minutes. I also do that and go ppp to fff and back for 12 seconds. Same chromatic ascent. Woohoo! Go music nerds!

Wow I should do that. I need something to do this week. I have already completed my bloody scales to perfection. (of course my teacher always seems to find something wrong...) Chromatic scales are fun. I dunno why I like to them but I do. My mom plays clarinet and often times she will come down while I am practicing and make me play a different chromatic scale each time she has to come down stairs to the kitchen (which is about 2-4 times an hour. Hey I am in the 8th grade. I still depend on my parents for a lot of stuff ) What is interesting is my whole family (my family is my mom, brother, and sister. I don't count my dad. He ain't family he is a large piece of bloody scum. Long story) plays an instrument. My brother plays trumpet, me and my mom play clarinet, and my sister plays percussion. My sister was principal percussionist at all southern and is in All State as well as Youth Symphony. That is what I have to live up to.... Darn I hate having a high achieving sister...

But all she does is hit stuff.......where's the talent? Yes, long tones are very important, you'll run into a passage where you'll need to hold a note for 10 beats or something. It's cool that your family does music stuff. My mom sings, older brother sings and plays geee-tar, but my little brother has yet to start up. I'm actually looking at getting a sweet vintage alto and letting him use my current alto. But I play both my Tenor and Alto too much to let him use it exclusively. but I'm the real music nerd in the family, taking the second year music theory class in college. I'm beggining to look at composing on the side, it's fun to write stuff. I'm planning to teach music, and would also like to learn repair stuff.

What's a flipp? Some band I haven't heard of?
Anywho, I am going to start saving up and getting vintage saxes to spiffy up and play on. They are cheaper to find than brand new ones, if only by a little.
Also, I am beggining to think of doing repair work more than teaching now. I've been going to a sax discussion board and it keeps getting more interesting.

Oh lord another loud saxist.... Save me I play the clarinet. I play both. I'm in the pit orchestra for my school, so even though I usually play the sax, I also have to play a broken clarinet. I prefer to play classical music (although the good parts are given to the flutes and trumpets). I like jazz as well, but I don't like the way the music is written, it's too hard to read. and as far as listening to classical music: I'd much rather play than listen, but I've been to a few symphonies. VH1 save the music, man!
